[Update 3/16/2009: see the post GLASS Beta Update: Cooking with GLASS (Preview) for the latest GLASS preview release. A new appliance is not yet available, so to use the new tools you should update to a new version of the GemTools Client and GLASS Server, using these instructions].
We are pleased to announce the availability of the 1.0Beta11 GLASS appliance. The appliance is based upon GemStone/S 64 Version 2.3. To download the appliance, head on over to our download page.
1.0Beta11 is based upon GLASS.230-dkh.164, see the 2.3 announcement for details.
If you are using an earlier version of the appliance, we suggest that you start using the 1.0beta11 appliance

HI, I’m new to Gemstone. Am I expected to stop glass system before I quit vmware, please? And is it possible to use GemTools with a GLASS Appliance (instead of a native Gemstone/s)?
Thanks

You can safely do a shutdown of linux within the appliance. The stone process (the important one) is shutdown as part of the OS shutdown process.
Yes you can use GemTools with a GLASS appliance. Use the ip address of the appliance in the login window

When I try to login to appliance at: 192.168.1.102(the same machine at:192.168.1.101, I am using a tp-link route), I get this warning:
————————————————-
Unable to create a GemStone session.
TCP service ‘gs64ldi’ is not defined in the services file on node ‘mymachinename’:
No network error.

Now, have I missed something?

My pleasure. The netldi stuff can be complicated (there _is_ a way to make ‘gs64ldi’ to work, but you can’t go wrong with using port numbers.
